Our Studio Space

Our studio is located in the Flat Iron Building in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood, at the “Six Corners” intersection of Milwaukee Avenue, North Avenue, and Damen Avenue. Designed in 1918 by architects Holabird and Roche, the building originally functioned as a professional office building—known for its distinctive triangular floor plan, intricately patterned white terracotta exterior, and expansive windows. In the 1960s the building was converted into an artist community and divided into a warren of smaller spaces where working artists were drawn to the cheap rents, communal zeitgeist, and abundant natural light. The Flat Iron Building continues to be a vibrant home to artists of all disciplines including painters, musicians, photographers, actors, dancers, sculptors, and multimedia artists. Our studio provides a healing container for clients to express themselves and find their own place within a community of ongoing artistic creation.

Clare has been practicing art therapy in studio 210 since 2015 when she became the primary clinician at Art Therapy Studio Chicago, a formative project in which she benefited from working within an artist community of shared ethos and rich Chicago history.

Virtual Offerings

Art Therapy

We provide art therapy via telehealth platforms. Together client and therapist can discuss client’s art making comfort level and preferences, and work together to select appropriate art media for the client to have available during sessions. Sometimes clients enjoy making art during sessions, and use their webcams to share the art content that they have produced in the meeting. In other instances, clients will work on therapeutic art making between sessions, and will share pictures of their completed images with their art therapist prior to each session. This gives each participant access to the relevant images for discussion and processing in session, and provides opportunities for responsive art making in sessions as psychological content unfolds and is worked through collaboratively.

Counseling

Counseling services are available through HIPAA compliant telehealth platforms. Grounded in a strengths-focused humanistic and Gestalt orientation, we provide tailored experiential opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to connect with their innate creativity and expand their psychological resilience to adversity and change. We understand that a healthy human experience encompasses a full range of emotions, including those that are painful and difficult; we join with our clients in building secure, accepting, and open-minded relationships where people are encouraged to safely explore and fully express their experiences, and to apply new insights to their lives in meaningful and adaptive ways.

Supervision

We provide online supervision for post-Master’s degree art therapists working towards their ATR credential. Chicago Art Therapy Collective practitioners include those who are board-certified registered art therapists (ATR-BC) and Art Therapy Certified Supervisors (ATCS) with a broad range of professional experience including inpatient, residential, and community-based services. As practicing artists, we incorporate art-based supervision techniques to help emerging professionals continue to honor and make central their distinct artist identities in order to stay grounded and resilient in their work.
